Some ‘Brecht’ in some quotes. I love oneliners, these are my favourites because they have a personal link….

Try and leave this world a little better than you found it

Lord Baden Powel - founder of scouting

Lots of the ideas of this lord with a big moustache and his campaign hat may long be outdated, I still love this quote from his last letter to all Boy Scouts. Having been a Boy Scout for quite some time, I learned to value helping one another, taking initiative, teamwork and developing yourself.

He probably wouldn’t have guessed, but in these challenging times, he’s more than right. We only have one world and are only ‘borrowing’ it from our children. So the more we try, in whatever we do, to leave this world a little better, the more grateful our children will be.

An essential aspect of creativity is being not afraid to fail

Edwin Land - inventor of Polaroid

My wife gave me a poster with this quote because she thought it fits me. This is only partly right. It is a fact that I’m quite creative. I’ve always loved creating things, both privately and professionally. Handcraft is a way of pausing my mind.

The second part of the quote reminds me that once in a while one should take a risk. Failing is learning. The poster hangs at the door of my shed where I why love to do DYI. To make sure I don’t forget.

Nooit de moed opgeven

Mémé Margriet -  greatest grandma

My grandma once gave me a poem which started with this line. It’s about never giving up, no matter how hard life can be. She herself was a great example of that, becoming a young widow with 4 daughters. She managed to get all of them through high school. Although she didn’t always agree with their choices, there was always her warm home they could return to. Family life is a part of who we are and might be a source of joy but also trouble. Having a son with autism myself, I know the troubled part but I treasure a great warm family.

In life, it’s not where you go, it’s who you travel with

Charles M. Schultz - Peanuts cartoonist

(I just love a great cartoon!)

If you need to go the extra mile, I can walk with you,

If you want to share your wildest ideas, let me be your whiteboard,

If you have some sorrow, I’m here to listen…

Always happy to join your ride no matter what the bumps may be!
